CIF Track: Wilson’s  Rachel Glenn Is Golden Girl Once Again

Across the state of California, there aren’t many athletes with the starpower of Wilson junior Rachel Glenn, who continued to write her golden legacy at Saturday’s CIF-SS Division 1 Track & Field championships with another three gold medals.

Glenn won championships in the Division 1 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles, and the high jump, and event she is the defending state champion in.

“I was feeling confident today, and I know I can do better over the next two weeks,” said Glenn. “The schedule of the day is a little hard to manage, but my coaches keep me calm and focused throughout it.”

Glenn went out for the 100 hurdles, which she won in 14.44, then stayed out on the track to begin the high jump. In the middle of the high jump, she went and cruised to a title in the 300 hurdles with a time of 41.48. Then she returned to the high jump, where she was four inches better than the rest of the field, clearing 5’6”. Shortly after that, Glenn went and ran on Wilson’s 4×400 relay, which finished third in a time of 3:47.99. Glenn had the best split of the day with a 53.75.

“Overall we’re happy,” said Wilson coach Neil Nelson. “We wanted a little better for our 4×400 and I know Armando is a little frustrated that he went out too fast in his 800, but everybody qualified for next week.”

The Bruins will have seven entries running at next weekend’s CIF-SS Masters Meet, as everyone who competed for them advanced. Glenn will compete in her three individual events as well as run on the girls’ 4×400, and both Armando Bryson and Jesus Nichol advanced in the 800 after fourth and seventh place finishes.

The Wilson boys’ 4×400 was in a heated battle with Upland and Poly, and took third–those are the three leading teams in the State and will all battle it out at Masters and then at State on May 25 for California supremacy.
