This Saturday at El Camino College, 30 entries from five Long Beach schools will compete in the CIF Southern Section Track & Field Masters Meet, a collection of the best of the best talent around Southern California and also the qualifying event for May 24-25’s CIF State meet.
Long Beach Poly leads the way with 17 entries, and the newly-minuted CIF-SS Division 1 boys champion and girls runner-up need Saturday to go well in order to qualify enough athletes to stay in the hunt for the team state titles. Wilson continues its excellent year with seven entries, including three individual events from Rachel Glenn. St. Anthony, Lakewood, and Millikan all have a pair of entries.
Because the Masters Meet combines all four divisions of the CIF-SS Finals, it’s truly a “best of the best” meet, and always produces exciting performances. This year, the top six finishers in each event will qualify for the CIF State meet–those who finish lower than sixth can still qualify by hitting an at-large standard, although that isn’t likely.
Here’s a full listing of the Long Beach athletes who will be competing this Saturday as well as where they’ll be seeded in their event. The meet begins at 11 a.m. with running events starting at 12:45 p.m.
