Athlete of the Week Long Beach Poly Millikan St. Anthony Track & Field Wilson

The562.org’s Athletes Of The Week

Congratulations to this week’s Athletes of the Week and thanks to Naples Rib Company for their sponsorship.

Asjah Atkinson, St. Anthony Track & Field

St. Anthony sophomore Asjah Atkinson has proven herself one of the best young athletes in the State after a powerhouse performance at the Masters Meet. Atkinson won the 100 hurdles in 14.08 (No. 2 time in the state) and was third in the long jump at 19-02.25.

Samarra Monrroy, Millikan Track & Field

Samarra Monrroy was the only freshman to win a Masters championship on Saturday, and she did it in style, as well. Monrroy’s winning time of 54.16 was the No. 1 time run in California this year, giving her a very realistic shot at a state title while still a 9th grader.

Saundria Martin, Long Beach Poly Track & Field

Long Beach Poly senior Saundria Martin has come on strong this year and her postseason run became even more golden last weekend. She won the Masters title in the 200 in 24.03, qualified for State in the 100 with a third-place finish, and helped lead the Poly 4×100 to a Masters gold as well in 46.70.

Armando Bryson, Wilson Track & Field

Armando Bryson was frustrated with himself after his performance at the CIF-SS Finals; after the Masters Meet, he was delighted. The Wilson senior finished second in the 800 in 1:55.47 to qualify for State, and helped lead Wilson’s 4×400 to a gold with a time of 3:13.86 as well.
