They’re partying like it’s 2008 in North Long Beach–that’s how long it’s been since Jordan was 2-0, a feat they accomplished on Thursday evening with a running clock win over Rancho Dominguez, 61-0.
“It feels great,” said Jordan coach Tim Wedlow. “2-0 for the first time since 2008 with John Timu and them–that’s big. We want to groom our guys to have the expectation of winning. We want to be ready for it and be prepared for it.”
The Jordan offense is having a lot of fun right now, spreading the ball around to a lot of playmakers. Longtime football fans will recognize it as the same offense Poly was running in the 1990s when Wedlow was an assistant coach under Poly’s Jerry Jaso (Jordan assistant Ken-Yon Rambo was a star in the system as well).
“This offense comes straight from 1600 Atlantic,” said Wedlow. “Jaso helped me put it in, he was pleased with how it looked.”
Jordan ended up only running 13 offensive plays in a game they dominated completely from start to finish. Quarterback Isaac Ochoa threw three touchdowns, hitting Jaylon Morgan, Isaac Shanks, and Elijah Jones. Morgan threw a touchdown to Malachi Scott, and both Jakob “Texas” Smith and Rickey Harvey scored rushing touchdowns. Nehemiah Condon got a score on a kickoff return for a touchdown, and Jordan Wofford and Jones both scored on pick-sixes.
In all nine, players scored touchdowns for the Panthers in the blowout victory.
“It means a lot to us, we all push each other in practice,” said Morgan.
“We still have life, we’re bringing Jordan back,” said Wofford.
Jordan (2-0) will get a bye week to enjoy its success and then will face Norwalk on September 13 in the Panthers’ home opener.
