The Avalon Lancers are taking the long trip to El Cajon tonight for a highly anticipated rematch with Foothills Christian. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The Avalon junior class is full of three-year starters who suffered though a disappointing 2-6 campaign in 2017, and the Lancers scheduled this season as a redemption road through teams like Foothills Christian. The Lancers lost to the Knights 36-16 that year. Foothills Christian won the CIF San Diego section last year.
Avalon started their 8-man football season with a 73-14 win over visiting Ocean View Christian last weekend.
Quarterback Antonio Ramos completed five of his six pass attempts for 254 yards, and he also ran for 115 yards in his first start behind center. Beto Martinez set a school record with 210 yards receiving in the game. Both performances were two of the best in California.
The Avalon defense was outstanding as Gustavo Hernandez led the way with 11 tackles and a sack. Adrian Rodriguez had an interception.
