Tuesday afternoon features one of the two most-anticipated girls’ volleyball matches of the year on the local schedule, as Lakewood hosts Long Beach Poly in a match between the two highest-ranked teams in the Moore League.
The Lancers and Jackrabbits have won the last seven league championships, and are the only local teams in the top CIF Southern Section division, with Poly ranked No. 10 and Lakewood “also receiving votes.”
The Jackrabbits are the defending champions and came into the year as the favorites, but a loss to Wilson and a five-set win over Millikan has cast that into doubt. Lakewood is currently alone in first place in the league with a perfect 5-0 record, while Poly is second at 4-1, and the Rams and Bruins are both tied for third at 3-2.
The match begins at 3 p.m. The Jackrabbits will host Lakewood in the second round for the regular season finale on Thursday, October 17.
