Long Beach legend Misty May-Treanor has been inducted into almost every Hall of Fame that she’s eligible for. May-Treanor, a three-time Olympic gold medalist who was a national champion and National Player of the Year at Long Beach State, is currently the Director of Volleyball at Long Beach City College.
In the last several years, May-Treanor has been inducted into the Century Club Hall of Fame, the Long Beach State Hall of Fame, the Newport Harbor Hall of Fame, the International Volleyball Hall of Fame, and the Southern California Volleyball Hall of Fame. Last week she got news of a tremendous honor: in November in Colorado Springs, she will be inducted into the newly-revived United States Olympic & Paralympic Hall of Fame.
“I’m truly humbled, words can’t express,” said May-Treanor. “I can’t believe I’ll be standing among the greatest athletes in the world. I never played this sport for the money or the accolades–I love it. I wish I could still play today, but my body said no.”
May-Treanor is the most decorated athlete in beach volleyball history, earning three gold medals for beach volleyball at the Olympics Games (2004, 2008, 2012) as well as three gold (2003, 2005, 2007) and one silver (2011) medal at the Beach Volleyball World Championships.
As an indoor volleyball champion, she won one bronze medal at the Pan American Games in 1999, a NCAA Division 1 Championship at Long Beach State in 1998 and two California State Championships at Newport Harbor High School.
“We are all so proud of her as a person and happy for this recognition of her athletic achievements,” said LBCC athletic director Bill Husak in a statement.
At LBCC, she’s led the indoor women’s volleyball team and beach volleyball teams to consecutive conference championships, earning conference Coach of the Year honors for both.
