Avalon football coach Michael Forcella said his Lancers had, “A renewed mindset” when they opened Express League play with a win over Downey Calvary Chapel last week, and they’ll try to keep it this week when they host Brethren Christian on Catalina at 5 p.m. on Friday.
Avalon (3-3, 2-0) continued to put up amazing offensive numbers in its 80-40 win over DCC, and once again receiver Adalberto Martinez led the way. The junior finished the game with 350 yards receiving, three receiving touchdowns, two kickoff returns for touchdowns, an interception returned for a touchdown and 15 tackles on defense.
According to MaxPreps, Martinez has more receiving yards (1,225) than any 8-Man football player in the nation, and is ranked No. 2 for all high schools in America.
Brethren Christian (1-4, 0-2) is giving up over 50 points per game this season.
