Khilyn Neal, Long Beach Poly Football
The Long Beach Poly senior has had four touchdowns called back on penalties this year, but finally got into the end zone twice against Compton, first on a strip-and-score sack as a defensive end, then as a tight end with a 50-yard touchdown catch. Neal also blocked for Aupiu Moe as a fullback on another score.
Victor Gomez, St. Anthony Football
St. Anthony is playing for a league championship this Friday, and it wouldn’t have been possible without Victor Gomez. As St. Genevieve’s running back was going in for the game-winning score in overtime, Gomez forced a fumble right at the goal line–St. Anthony recovered and would end up winning.
Brett Dowgiewicz, Wilson Football
Wilson’s Brett Dowgiewicz led a strong linebacking corps effort that held Lakewood to 202 yards of offense in a big Bruins win last Friday. Dowgiewicz led the way with seven solo tackles, two of which were for a loss.
Grace Abdoo, Long Beach Poly Volleyball
Long Beach Poly senior Grace Abdoo didn’t want to end her senior season with a second-place Moore League finish. The Jackrabbits’ libero spearheaded an excellent night from Poly’s back row, putting up 13 digs in a sweep of Lakewood to claim the Moore League championship.
Ronan McMahon-Staggs, Long Beach Poly Cross Country
Long Beach Poly senior Ronan McMahon-Staggs made it two-for-two for the Jackrabbits this cross country season, as he finished first in the Signal Hill Discovery Well meet, with a time of 16:22. McMahon-Staggs will go for the league championship in two weeks at Heartwell Park.
Camille Lindsay, Long Beach Poly Cross Country
Freshman phenom Camille Lindsay has run two Moore League cross country races, and has won both of them. At last week’s Signal Hill meet, Lindsay posted a time of 19:23, more than a full minute faster than second-place finisher Isabella Stockalper of Millikan.
