It was a special Saturday for Long Beach volleyball fans as all four teams competing in the second round of the CIF Southern Section girls’ volleyball playoffs advanced to next week’s CIF-SS quarterfinals, which will be held on Wednesday.
The quarterfinals will have a lot on the line. Not only will the winners advance to next Saturday’s semifinal round, they’ll also clinch a berth in the CIF State playoffs. Long Beach Poly was eliminated in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs but has already clinched a state berth.
Lakewood defeated Beckman in five sets on the road in Division 2, led by 15 kills each from Keke Hall, Laura Williams, and Samarah DaCoud. Kat Gee had four aces in the win, and Makayla Sorenson had seven kills in the middle. Alwen Pila had 21 digs to lead Lakewood defensively. The Lancers will host Rancho Cucamonga in the quarterfinals Wednesday at 6 p.m.

St. Anthony made quick work of their Division 4 opponent, Buena, sweeping them 25-13, 25-16, 25-23. The Saints will be on the road against Valley Christian on Wednesday in the quarterfinals.
Avalon defeated Liberty Christian on the road, 25-16, 25-19, 25-13. The Lancers will face Santa Clara Wednesday in the quarterfinals.
