It was a frustrating long road trip for LBCC, who trailed Bakersfield for almost the entirety of their game on Saturday. But after trailing for 90% of the game, the Vikings scored a game-winner with 42 seconds left as quarterback Derrach West ran in a five-yard touchdown to hand LBCC a 23-20 win.
With the victory, LBCC (5-2, 2-0) remains undefeated and in first place in conference.
The Vikings outgained their hosts 320 yards to 139 but struggled to put the ball in the end zone. After taking a 3-0 lead, LBCC trailed 14-3 and was playing catch up for the entire game.
The Vikings defense held Bakersfield to 97 yards passing and 42 yards rushing in the win.
LBCC will host Moorpark at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 2 for the team’s Veterans Appreciation Game.
