Long Beach Shore Aquatics is hosting a Swim-A-Thon on Saturday at Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center on the campus of Long Beach State.
“The Swim-a-Thon will be a great opportunity for all shore members to get together and have fun! It’ll also be a great fundraiser to raise money for something like new lane lines,” Shore Director Chi Kredell said.
The Swim-a-Thon will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 12 p.m. at LBSU. Athletes who wish to participate must be a Shore Aquatics member. There will be three different heats where participants will be sectioned off into groups and swim any stroke of their choice for 45 minutes.
Participants will receive a pledged donation for every lap completed or a flat donation from donors and will be eligible for prizes after raising a minimum amount. These prizes will include new Shore Aquatics’ gear like beanies, hats, hoodies, and backpacks.
Along with this, the top four participants who raise the most money will win a new pair of Laguna fins, donated by Laguna Fin Co.
Guardians of the athletes who participate will also have a chance to enter a raffle for the winner’s athlete to join five-time Olympian and Silver Medalist, Tony Azevedo at one of his shooting school sessions at the Belmont Plaza Pool.
“We’re all very excited that Tony Azevedo and Laguna Fin Co. are participating in our Swim-A-Thon. The opportunity to work with an Olympian and win some new gear will be a great motivator for our team,” said Dylan Pinckert, head coach of Shore’s Masters Division.
There will also be other events going on throughout the Swim-A-Thon such as a 50/50 raffle and a prize wheel where those who have an opportunity to spin it will have a chance to win many different treats.
Jolyn SoCal will also have a booth showing off their many swimwear designs during the event on the pool deck. The Swim-A-Thon will be open to all Long Beach community members.
Long Beach Shore Aquatics was established in 1993 by Klaus Barth. The not-for-profit organization’s team dedicate their efforts to help athletes of all ages to be the best that they can be in spirit, body, and mind. Shore Aquatics will continue to instill, promote, and maintain the tradition of excellent aquatics in Long Beach for years to come.
