Girls’ Water Polo Preview: Wilson Bruins

The Bruins are hungry to continue their legacy and Wilson is a program on the rise. The Bruins are back in the top division in the CIF Southern Section after winning a lower division CIF-SS title two years ago. This year’s Wilson team returns five starters from last year’s 18-9 overall Moore League championship squad.

Junior Ava Smith looks to be a leader scoring and distributing, with seniors Maegan Simon and Delainey Whelan providing the experience. Sophomore Zoe Seaboch is back in goal after an excellent frosh debut.

“We’re excited to see our program grow with the addition of 16 freshmen,” said Wilson coach Barry O’Dea. “We believe we’re ready to compete at a high level this year in a very competitive Division 1⁄2.”

There’s plenty of talent among those freshmen ranks as well, including Maya O’Dea, who will be in the starting lineup, as well as Gabby Gillott and Zoe Grover, who will be on the varsity squad. Other key returners include Isabel Marr, Lilly Simmons, Emmy Donnell, and Camryn Krueger.

Wilson had a top ten finish at a major state-wide tournament over the summer, which has helped bolster O’Dea’s confidence in his squad.

“We look forward to a successful Moore League run as we prepare for the February playoffs,” he said.
