“I just try to bring as much energy as possible,” Cooper said. “I’m trying to do the little things because that brings everyone together. Everything else comes with it.”

Coppers effort helped Wilson (10-6, 1-0) open up a stagnant game by pushing the ball up the floor quickly off turnovers and misses. He scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half.

Jordan (6-10, 0-2) worked hard to keep Wilson off balance, and crashed the offensive glass for a handful of put-back buckets in the first half, but Wilson used a 11-4 run late in the third quarter to take the lead for good.

Wilson senior point guard Johnathan Chan sparked the run and scored a team-high 15 points. Senior forward Jackson Barnhill stared the game with a pair of 3-pointers and finished with 14 points.

“Jordan makes these games gritty and I like the way our guys toughed it out,” Wilson coach James Boykin said. “Cooper made some really big plays in the second half. He’s a football player too, so he loves it. He loves the moment, and he was a big spark for us.”

Jordan had a 13-12 lead after the first quarter, and only trailed 24-22 at halftime. Senior Imani Herring scored a game-high 18 points for the Panthers.

Senior Karen Goland’s layup through contact in the final minute lifted the Rams (11-4, 2-0) to an impressive road victory. Millikan had a balanced offense all night as Sophomore Rob Diaz III scored a team-high 11 points while Goland, senior Myles Carmon and senior Elijah Leonard each scored 10 points.

Compton (11-7, 1-1) had won six of its last seven games.

The Jackrabbits (6-7, 2-0) snapped a three-game losing streak with this league victory at home.
