Emma Shiffer, Wilson Soccer
Wilson junior Emma Shiffer scored in the fourth and 15th minutes of the Bruins’ game against Long Beach Poly last week, giving the Bruins a 2-0 lead that held up in a thrilling 3-2 victory. The goals were assisted by Mollie Dostalek and Samantha Thompson.
Jennine Osorio, Millikan Water Polo
Jennine Osorio was a force for Millikan at the Moore League water polo showcase last week, as she scored six goals in a 20-0 victory over Jordan. All six of Osorio’s shots found the back of the net in the win over the Panthers.
Asia Jordan, Lakewood Basketball
Asia Jordan is the reigning Moore League Player of the Year and she showed why in an exciting 62-48 victory over Wilson which keeps the Lancers in a three-way tie for first place with Poly and Millikan. Wilson’s Ashley Hawkins scored 40, but it was 34 points from Jordan that won the day.
Gabe Cummings, Long Beach Poly Basketball
Long Beach Poly sophomore Gabe Cummings had a big moment in the Jackrabbits’ game against Compton last week, a first-place Moore League battle. The game was tied with less than a minute on the clock when Cummings rattled in a go-ahead three-pointer to give Poly the win.
Andres Mota, Wilson Soccer
Wilson stayed in the Moore League boys’ soccer championship with a 2-0 victory over Poly last week, thanks in part to the stellar defensive effort of Andres Mota. The Bruins scored on a penalty kick and an own goal, and were able to keep league-leading Poly scoreless thanks to Mota’s efforts.
Bonard Johnson, Lakewood Basketball
Lakewood’s Bonard Johnson is one of the best scorers in the Moore League this year, and helped his Lancers to a 49-42 victory over Sunnyside at Saturday’s Ron Massey Tip-Off Classic. Johnson scored a game-high 22 points in the win for Lakewood.
