THURSDAY
High School Girls’ Soccer, 6:30 p.m.
Wilson is just two wins away from clinching the Moore League title, and the toughest game left on the schedule is tonight at home against rival Long Beach Poly. The Bruins held on for an exciting 3-2 win on the road earlier this month, so the Jackrabbits want some revenge to spoil the coronation. In other league action, Millikan is hosting Lakewood while Jordan travels to Compton.
St. Anthony will try to stay undefeated in Camino Real League play when it hosts St. Monica at 3:15 this afternoon at Clark Field. The Saints only have three games left on the regular season schedule.
Long Beach State Men’s Basketball at UC Riverside, 7 p.m.
Both LBSU and UC Riverside come into this week with three Big West losses. However, UCR is tied for third in the standings and LBSU is tied for eighth. That’s how close the Big West is this year. The Highlanders don’t have a player in the conference in top five for the major statistical categories.
Long Beach State Women’s Basketball vs. UC Riverside, 7 p.m.
The Beach is trying to extend its season best winning streak to four games against the visiting Highlanders. UCR is on the bottom half of the conference standings after losing its last two games. J Otto is leading the Highlanders with 15.8 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. Both of those marks are fourth in the Big West. LBSU trails the all-time series with UCR 20-23 after losing three of the last four meetings.
FRIDAY
High School Basketball, 5 & 6:30 p.m.
This is the last full Friday of Moore League basketball as league leaders Long Beach Poly travel to Lakewood. In other action, Millikan is hosting Wilson while Cabrillo visits Compton. Both girls’ and boys’ games between Millikan and Wilson should be exciting as the Bruins look for upsets.
St. Anthony has two Del Rey League games left this season and they’re both at home. The first one is tonight at 7 against St. Bernard. The Saints are currently in first place, and St. Bernard is a game back in second.
High School Boys’ Soccer, 3 p.m.
First-place Long Beach Poly has a tough task at home as fourth-place Jordan comes to town looking for an upset. The Panthers have already picked up quality results against Poly, Wilson and Cabrillo. In other action, Lakewood is traveling to Compton while Wilson hosts Cabrillo at 6:30 p.m.
St. Anthony is hosting St. Monica at Clark Field at 4:30 p.m. in Camino Real League action.
Long Beach City College Women’s Basketball at L.A. Harbor, 5 p.m.
This game kicks off a double header at L.A. Harbor tonight as the Vikings try to stay undefeated in South Coast Conference action.
Long Beach City College Men’s Basketball at L.A. Harbor, 7 p.m.
The Vikings continue SCC play without guard Jace Bass (ankle) as they start a three-game road trip.
SATURDAY
Long Beach State Men’s Volleyball vs. No. 6 UCLA, 7:30 p.m.
This is the only game of the week for No. 4 LBSU and it closes out the three-game homestand. The Beach has won the last six meetings with the Bruins, but UCLA still leads the all-time series 51-42.
Long Beach State Men’s Basketball vs. UC Santa Barbara, 4 p.m.
The Beach is back at Walter Pyramid for an important Big West game against UC Santa Barbara. LBSU upset the Gauchos at home earlier this month, and have relied on its defense to maintain that momentum. JaQuori McLaughlin leads UCSB with 14.8 points per game, and that ranks third in the conference.
Long Beach State Women’s Basketball at Hawaii, 8:30 p.m.
Just nine days after Hawaii came to Long Beach, the Beach is going to the big island for a quick rematch. LBSU handed Hawaii a 62-55 defeat on the mainland last week.
Long Beach State Women’s Water Polo vs. No. 16 Loyola Marymount, 9 a.m.
This is the first of two games for the Beach today at the UCLA Mini tournament in Los Angeles. LBSU will face LMU this morning and San Jose State at 2 p.m. this afternoon.
SUNDAY
Long Beach State Women’s Tennis vs. UC Davis, 11 a.m.
A day after traveling to face No. 12 USC, the Beach is back at Rhodes Tennis Center to host UC Davis in the Big West Conference season opener. LBSU shocked the conference by winning the tournament as a low seed last year.
