Peyton Watson helped Long Beach Poly into the second round of the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs, dropping 25 points against Crossroads and then scoring 29 at Riverside Poly in what ended up being a season-ending loss for the Jackrabbits.
Santos Salas, Millikan Wrestling
Millikan junior Santos Salas won a CIF-SS Central Division championship in the heavyweight division on Saturday. Santos received a bye in the first round and then pinned his next four opponents to claim the individual CIF-SS title.
Samiya Terry, Wilson Basketball
Wilson’s Samiya Terry had a career night in the second round of the CIF-SS Division 3A playoffs, leading Wison to a blowout win while putting up 30 points in the best game of her career. Terry, who was also a standout volleyball player at Wilson, is signed to Cal State Monterey Bay.
Nala Williams, Long Beach Poly Basketball
Long Beach Poly sophomore Nala Williams looked like a senior star for the Jackrabbits in an Open Division win over Rosary last weekend. Williams came off the bench to drop 20 points in a comfortable win for the Jackrabbits.
Taylor Griffiths, St. Anthony Soccer
The St. Anthony boys’ soccer team made a school-history run to the quarterfinals, thanks in large part to Taylor Griffiths, who scored a goal in all of the Saints’ playoff games to help them make history.
Mason Igawa, Millikan Soccer
Mason Igawa scored the only goal for Millikan in a first-round CIF Southern Section Division 1 win over Downey last week. Igawa’s goal came with just five minutes remaining in the game and helped the Rams into a second-round contest with Santa Ana.
Morgan King, Long Beach Poly Soccer
Long Beach Poly senior and Northern Colorado signee Morgan King had a pair of great performances in the Jackrabbits’ two playoff victories. King had the free kick to set up the game’s winning goal against Fountain Valley and calmly buried a free kick in a 1-0 win over Los Osos in the second round.
Jennine Osorio, Millikan Water Polo
Millikan’s Jennine Osorio had a big hand in the Rams’ run to the CIF-SS quarterfinals, scoring four goals in each of the Rams’ first two games. That included a pair of goals in overtime to seal a second-round victory.
