HIGH SCHOOL
Sydney Ross, Wilson Basketball
Sophomore Sydney Ross provided the defensive spark that Wilson needed in a CIF-SS Division 3A semifinal win over West Covina on Saturday. Ross had eight points but provided excellent ball pressure in shutting down WC’s best player.
Ashley Hawkins, Wilson Basketball
Wilson junior Ashley Hawkins has been the team’s leading scorer all year, and she gave them a big boost in wins over La Quinta and West Covina last week, leading the Bruins in points in both games. Hawkins’ return from injury this year has helped lead Wilson to this Saturday’s CIF-SS final.
Simone Morris, Long Beach Poly Basketball
It was a tough week for the Long Beach Poly girls’ basketball team as they failed to advance out of the CIF-SS Open Division pool play. But junior Simone Morris showed her skill leading Poly in scoring in both games, with 15 points against Corona Centennial and 11 points against Windward.
Jadon Jones, St. Anthony Basketball
St. Anthony senior Jadon Jones, a Long Beach State commit, had a nice performance for the Saints in their CIF-SS Open Division loss to St. John Bosco last week. Jones had 18 points including a thunderous dunk, which shut the game down as the crowd went crazy.
