HIGH SCHOOL

Nico Iamaleava, Long Beach Poly Volleyball

It’s not often that a freshman can make a Moore League debut in dominant fashion, but Long Beach Poly frosh Nico Iamaleava did just that in Poly’s four-set win over Lakewood. The 6-5 outside hitter had 18 kills, 11 digs, three blocks, and two aces in his first-ever league match.

Juliana Babore, Wilson Softball

Juliana “JJ” Babore was just as dominant making her freshman debut at Wilson. Playing against defending league champion and perennial power Lakewood, Babore was impressive going 3-for-3 with two homeruns, four RBIs, three runs, and a base on balls.

Matthew Schafer, Wilson Golf

Matthew Schafer earned medalist honors twice last week, firing a four-under part round of 68 in the Ayala Spring Classic, and again in a win over Santa Margarita as he shot even. Schafer had seven birdies and an eagle on the week and is averaging a score of 71.4 this season.

Ashlee Lewis, Long Beach Poly Basketball

Long Beach Poly senior Ashlee Lewis concluded her stellar high school career with the Jackrabbits last week with a pair of impressive performances. The Cal State Fullerton signee had 12 points and 8 rebounds in an upset of Mater Dei, then 12 points and 12 rebounds in a loss to Windward.

Lassen Felix, Millikan Lacrosse

Rams sophomore Lassen Felix was outstanding for the Rams in a win over Wilson last week. Felix had a career high of five goals, along with two assists and three recovered ground balls. The win keeps Millikan in a first-place tie with undefeated Poly ahead of next week’s showdown.
