Lakewood and Long Beach State alum Matt Duffy has signed with the New York Yankees as part of their 60-player roster, the team announced over the weekend. Duffy is part of an expanded player pool for the 2020 season, which will be a truncated 60-game schedule due to the COVID-19 shutdowns.
Duffy will join Wilson alum Aaron Hicks on the Yankees roster. Duffy won a World Series with the Giants in 2014. After three years in San Francisco, he’s been in the Tampa Bay Rays organization the last three seasons, and was slated to spend this year in the Rangers organization before being waived and then signed by the Yankees on the same day.
