Long Beach’s lone CIF championship during the 2019-20 season was a significant one, as Wilson’s girls’ basketball program claimed its first CIF plaque in two decades with a 66-62 overtime win over Eisenhower for the CIF-SS Division 3A title. The victory united generations of Bruins hoopers, with senior standout Samiya Terry receiving calls from members of Wilson’s 2000 title team in the days leading up to the title game. Terry delivered with a game-high 24 points and seven rebounds against Eisenhower, with Jasmine Stone adding 14 points and 13 rebounds and Ashley Hawkins chipping in 14 points as well.

The Bruins started out the season just 2-3 in Moore League play, but won 12 of their next 13 games en route to a CIF title. Included in that stretch was a 69-63 win at Millikan; the first time Wilson has beaten the Rams since 2012.
While the championship was a climactic moment for Wilson, it was the culmination of one of the most successful seasons in recent history for the Bruins. Fourth-year head coach Erin Carey led the Bruins to a 25-9 overall record, which was an 18-win improvement from the year prior. The 25 victories also represents the highest win total for the Bruins in at least 15 years.
