The long wait is over, relatively speaking.
Long Beach State men’s and women’s basketball have been working out in small groups outdoors for about a month, and today they went inside.
However, they’re not at Walter Pyramid. Both teams are practicing at AIM Sports Group in Seal Beach and will continue to do so until the Long Beach Health Department clears them to practice indoors in Long Beach.
LBSU athletic director Andy Fee went before the city health department on Monday to request approval to practice in the Pyramid. The health officials asked for additional information, and LBSU provided that this morning. The health department said they would turn the decision around within the next 24-36 hours, but Fee decided to move the teams to a Orange County where they can practice together in the meantime.
Fee and coach Dan Monson said there was incredible energy at the men’s basketball practice at AIM this morning. The women’s team also practice this morning, and they’re planning on keeping that schedule at AIM until the city health department clears them to return to the Pyramid.
“We had a good discussion with the city so we are crossing our fingers,” Fee said. “But until they say ‘Yes’ we will be at AIM.”
