It’s not often you see a home-and-home series in football–much less in consecutive weeks–but in the world of COVID, scheduling quirks are to be expected. Due to a positive test within the Poly football program, the Moore League schedule was reshuffled this week, setting up a matchup between Wilson and Jordan tonight in North Long Beach.
The Panthers will be making their season debut tonight, after they were unable to play their game against Millikan a week ago. These teams met in J-Town last season, with the Bruins coming away with a 46-12 victory. Wilson threw for 278 yards and five touchdowns in that win, led by current senior Tyrie Robinson’s 123 receiving yards.
Wilson is coming off a thrilling 27-26 victory over Compton in its season opener. The Bruins leaned on sophomore running back Johnell Gray, who had 115 yards on 14 carries and a score. Wilson scored the game-winning touchdown in the final minutes as Zander McLaurin hit senior wide receiver Michael Bruner for a 25-yard TD strike.
Jordan will be looking for its first win over the Bruins since 2012 and will get two chances to do it. The Panthers will visit Wilson next Thursday for a 7 p.m. tilt.
