This is the day Wilson and Jordan were supposed to play their Moore League Spring season matchup, but it’s also the second time in less than a week the Bruins and Panthers will face off. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Wilson.
Last Friday, a positive COVID-19 test from the Long Beach Poly vs. Lakewood game sent a schedule ripple through the league. It forced Wilson and Jordan to adjust quickly and add the extra game against each other so they could at least play.
Wilson won the added contest 32-6 in a sloppy affair that saw a pair of lost fumbles early in the first quarter. Jordan couldn’t capitalize on a long opening drive and the Bruins scored four times before the Panthers got on the board.
Asked what his team can gain from the unique experience of playing a team and then playing them again in six days, Wilson coach Mark Ziegenhagen said he hopes it helps with an attention to detail.
“It’s a chance to eliminate mistakes and eliminate playing for themselves, to play for their teammates,” he said. “We’ve also got a lot of first year guys and guys who’ve never played under the lights, so I think it helps to get them some experience.”
Wilson will also be celebrating Senior Night before the game and Ziegenhagen said that he will start all of his available seniors for the first series of the game.
All of the Moore League football games are being played tonight due to the holiday weekend.
