HIGH SCHOOL
Wendell “WoWo” Moe, Long Beach Poly Football
Long Beach Poly junior Wendell “WoWo” Moe might be the best player on the field this year. The 6’4” 340 pound junior lineman has been playing both ways, powering Poly’s dominant rushing attack and defense; last year Poly allowed just 48 yards to Compton on the ground while rushing for 228 yards and four TDs with Moe leading the way.
Tyrie Robinson, Wilson Football
Wilson senior Tyrie Robinson was playing in his last home game of his career last Friday against Jordan, and the four-year varsity player wanted to go out with a bang. He did that with two touchdowns, one on the ground and one as a receiver, both in the first half.
COLLEGE
Tyler Spriggs, Long Beach State Volleyball
Senior Tyler Spriggs and partner Mari Molinaj represent the top flight for the Long Beach State beach volleyball team, which split a series against Hawaii last weekend. Spriggs and Molinaj won their match in both contests, winning the first 21-19, 17-21, 15-10 and the second 21-19, 21-17. They were the only Beach pair to win in both contests.
Alyssa Gonzalez, Long Beach State Softball
The Long Beach State softball team swept CSUN with three big-scoring performances last weekend, and junior Alyssa Gonzalez was a big part of why. In three games she had seven hits, six RBIs, and four runs while batting .583 as the Beach won the three games by a combined score of 24-4.
