Lakewood and Compton’s football teams will meet tonight at Wilson at 7 p.m., in a contest between a pair of programs both awaiting a home. The Lancers’ stadium just broke ground and is hopefully going to be ready for next season, while Compton’s entire campus is being rebuilt and they’ll likely be playing in other stadiums for a few years.
Lakewood (0-1, 0-1) is having a frustrating COVID-19 football season. The Lancers had their first game canceled after a positive test, then were able to return to the field for their first contest on March 19 for a 41-0 loss to Poly. After a Jackrabbit player who had played in that game tested positive for COVID-19, the Lancers have been on the shelf for the last two weeks.
That means that even though this is the fifth week of the five-week season, Lakewood hasn’t scored a touchdown or gotten to celebrate a big moment together as a team, something they’re hoping to do tonight against Compton, and then next week against Wilson.
Compton (0-3, 0-3) is fresh off a game against the Jackrabbits, and is banged up as a result, having lost a few players due to injury. Both teams are looking for their first wins as they meet at Wilson this evening.
