After a 13-month break, the Millikan and Wilson boys volleyball teams were back in action Tuesday afternoon to open Moore League play.
Junior Leo Pravednikov led the Bruins’ attack with a game-high 14 kills as Wilson swept Millikan, 25-13, 25-18, 25-16.
“We’ve all been really waiting for this for a long time to get these games in,” Pravednikov said. “Last year we got cut short right before the season was about to start. It was a big bummer. Luckily a lot of us play club, so we were able to practice.”
In the first set, Pravednikov had three kills and one ace as the Bruins jumped out to a 7-2 lead forcing a Millikan timeout.
After the timeout, the Rams (0-1) went on 4-0 run thanks to three errors and a kill by Kyle Paulson which cut Wilson’s lead to 8-6.
After Millikan cut Wilson’s lead to 13-11, the Bruins went on a 12-2 run to cap off the first set win.
The Bruins (1-0) continued their scoring run jumping out to a 7-0 lead in the second set.
“Today was a well-rounded win,” Wilson head coach Jeremy Cook said. “I liked the style we played with. We kind of had a good tempo going, our passing – we just prided ourselves on the defensive end.”
After falling behind 22-9, the Rams went on a 9-5 run as Wilson closed out a 25-18 win.
Wilson’s Payne Lounsbery led the Bruins in the third set with five kills as they jumped out to a 13-3 lead and ran away with the win.
Both teams will be busy the rest of the week as they each play three games over the next seven days.
The Bruins will take on Lakewood, Poly and Cabrillo and Millikan will take on Jordan, Lakewood and Poly.
