Wilson girls’ soccer coach Dalton Kaufman announced today that this will be his last season with the Bruins. Kaufman coached at his alma mater 1998-2005 and 2012-2021 while winning seven Moore League championships and a CIF-SS title in 2013.
“It was the honor of a lifetime to coach at my alma mater,” Kaufman said. “I’m truly grateful to the Wilson athletic department and administration for being so supportive. I will cherish the memories of coaching hundreds of the most amazing student-athletes and am a better coach and person from those experiences.”
Kaufman is the winningest soccer coach in Wilson history with a 226-95-49 overall record. He was named 2013 CIF Coach of the Year, and took the Bruins back to the Division 1 semifinals in 2015.
“Wilson girls’ soccer would not be where it is today without (Kaufman’s) efforts,” Wilson athletic director Jeff Evans said. “He is one of the top coaches in CIF, and we will miss having his expertise and leadership.”
Kaufman said he will stay around for the transition into a new era under a new coach, and is even willing to run the summer program if necessary.
“I want to leave this program in tiptop shape,” Kaufman said. “It will be difficult to leave at the seasons end, but I do so knowing this is a top ten caliber program loaded with talented, committed, and dedicated athletes. I can’t thank the Bruin Family and Long Beach community enough for 17 amazing years.”
The walk-on coaching position includes a season stipend of $4,400.15 and there are no teaching positions available at this time, according to Evans. Any person who is interested needs to email a resume and two letters of recommendation to JAEvans@LBSchools.net. Applications will be accepted until Monday, May 3.
