Lily Buggs, Long Beach Poly Basketball
Long Beach Poly senior Lily Buggs has emerged as the Jackrabbits’ premier scorer this year. Last week Buggs dropped 30 points in a win over Downey and then 20 points in a win over league foe Millikan. She’s signed with Cal State LA.
Victoria Byrum, Millikan Softball
Millikan sophomore Victoria Byrum had a memorable performance last week against Lakewood at Lisa Fernandez Field. Byrum pitched a complete game shutout to lead the Rams to a win and keep them in the Moore League title hunt.
Dallas Cooper, Wilson Basketball
Wilson’s Dallas Cooper is a multi-sport athlete for the school and he’s been sore this Spring, playing football and basketball at the same time. Cooper dropped 30 points in a win for Wilson over Cabrillo to keep the Bruins in the playoff picture.
Courtney Cummings, Millikan Soccer
Millikan senior Courtney Cummings scored two goals in the first 10 minutes of Millikan’s huge Moore League showdown between the Rams and Long Beach Poly. The result stood up in a 4-0 win that keeps the Rams’ title chances alive.
Anthony Eyanson, Lakewood Baseball
Lakewood two-sport star Anthony Eyanson had a huge game for the Lancers on the diamond last week in a win over Wilson. Eyanson scored two runs, stole two bases, and then pitched three innings out of the bullpen, giving up just two hits.
Elias Torres, Long Beach Poly Baseball
The Jackrabbits got a huge 1-0 win over Millikan last week, thanks in large part to senior Elias Torres, who pitched a complete-game shutout, giving up just two hits and walking two while striking out four batters.
Leo Pravednikov, Wilson Volleyball
Wilson’s boys’ volleyball team looks like the class of the city this year, and Leo Pravednikov is the star of the show for the Bruins. Pravednikov had 18 kills and three aces in a sweep win over Poly last week that keeps Wilson undefeated.

Holland Shourds, Long Beach State Golf
Making it three straight for Long Beach State, Holland Shourds was the individual champion at the Big West Championship, shooting 2-under par over three rounds at Yorba Linda Country Club to earn individual medalist and advance to the NCAA Regionals.
