BREAKING: Wilson Hires New Girls’ Soccer Coach Brian Irvin

After a decade with coach Dalton Kaufman at the helm, Wilson girls’ soccer will be led by another Bruins alum. The school announced today that Brian Irvin is taking over as the new girls’ soccer coach.

“I’m honored to coach at my alma mater and excited to lead this great program,” Irvin said. “I’m going to build on the great tradition that (Kaufman) established in soccer and academics. I’m passionate about soccer, Long Beach and Wilson High School and I’m looking forward to this opportunity.”

Irvin is a member of the Wilson Athletic Hall of Fame, and he played collegiate soccer at UCLA from 1992-1996. Irvin started his coaching career as an assistant at Loyola Marymount University where he served for nine years. He was an assistant coach with the Wilson boys’ soccer program this year.

Last month, Kaufman announced he was going to step down after this season. The Bruins lost in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs this week.

“(Irvin) is a great guy and phenomenal coach,” Kaufman said. “I’m so thrilled he’s taking over. The Wilson girls’ soccer program is in excellent hands.”
