Long Beach Poly junior Nala Williams scored an unheard-of 28 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in the Jackrabbits’ second-round Division 1 playoff win over Peninsula last week.

Rams senior Trevor Thompson helped lead a dominant Millikan win in the quarterfinals last weekend. Thompson was one of 11 Rams to win their matchup via pin.
Sophia Miller, Millikan Wrestling
Millikan senior Sophia Miller led the Rams to a big playoff win last weekend with the match-clinching win at 126 pounds, advancing Millikan to the quarterfinals.
Nico Colchico, Wilson Track and Field
Wilson’s Nico Colchico had a busy day last Friday. Colchico was the Moore League champion in the 800 and the 1600, then had to quickly run to the gym to start in Wilson’s basketball playoff game.
Jade McDonald, Long Beach Poly Track and Field
Poly senior Jade McDonald, an Iowa signee, left her footprints all over the Moore League Finals last Friday. McDonald was the individual champion in four events: long jump, triple jump, the 100 hurdles, and the 300 hurdles.
Leo Pravednikov, Wilson Volleyball
Wilson junior Leo Pravednikov has been the city’s standout volleyball player all year, and last Saturday he led his Bruins to a win in the CIF-SS semifinals with 14 kills.
Matthew Schafer, Wilson Golf
Wilson’s Matthew Schafer dominated last week’s Moore League Golf Championship, going -7 with a 281 score over the four-day tournament. Schafer won the title by 16 strokes, joining his brother Tyler as a league champ.
Andy Nguyen, Millikan Tennis
Rams sophomore Andy Nguyen helped his team make history last week. Along with Nolan Alvarez, he was one of two Millikan players to go 3-0 in the Rams’ CIF-SS championship victory.
Edgar Rosales, Long Beach Poly Baseball
Poly senior Edgar Rosales was a star on the mound and at the plate for the Jackrabbits in a Moore League championship win over Wilson. Rosales pitched three shutout innings in relief, and also sparked the game-winning rally with a sixth-inning double.
