The Long Beach State women’s soccer team finished its week of exhibition games with a strong 1-0 win over LMU on Thursday night at George Allen Field. The Beach limited the Lions to just three shots on goal while substitute forward Nadiyah Siqueiros scored the game winner in the 43rd minute.
“I feel like we’ve improved,” LBSU 17th-year coach Mauricio Ingrassia said after his team won its second exhibition in four days. “I think we needed a game like that where the pace is more real and the time on the ball is less and we hadn’t had that for a long time. There were about five new players on the field to start the second half and I think the more minutes we get we’re just going to get better.”
LBSU outshot LMU 9-7 for the game and had five corner kicks to the Lions’ two.
“That was exactly what we expected because LMU always goes hard with us and it’s always a good game and we were ready to have a tough game,” LBSU senior defender Kaylee Ramirez said.
Siqueiros entered the game midway through the first half and scored on one of her first touches of the ball. The goal-scoring play started with a buildup from the back line before freshman Maddy Perez found freshman Summer Laskey on the right flank. She crossed it to Siqueiros at the near post and the senior slid in to get a pair of touches off a slight deflection to beat the goalkeeper.

LMU pushed hard for the equalizer and had a golden opportunity to score with about 10 minute to play, but Ramirez was there to clear it off the line with a header.
“I saw (LBSU goalkeeper Morgan Houston-Shepherd) come out to punch it and we’re taught when our keeper comes out to tuck back and cover and that’s what I did,” Ramirez said. “We all wanted to keep the shutout so I’m just glad I was able to be there and clear it off the line.”
LBSU opens the regular season with a six-game road trip that starts at Cal State Northridge on Thursday. It will be a non-conference contest.
