Long Beach State women’s soccer opened its season with an impressive 2-0 win at Cal State Northridge as a trio of seniors carried the Beach to victory.
Kayla Cannon got LBSU on the board in the 25th minute off a rebound. Two minutes later, Kaylee Ramirez’s throw in set up Daria Petredes just outside the 18-yard box for a perfect strike into the far side netting.
This is the first season opening shutout win for LBSU since upsetting No. 4 UCLA, 1-0, in 2015.
LBSU finished the night with 15 total shots, seven on goal. Lena Silano led the game with six shots, three on goal, and freshman Summer Laskey added three shots with two on goal. One of those counted as the assist on Cannon’s goal.
The Beach limited CSUN to one shot on goal in the final minute as goalkeeper Morgan Houston-Shepherd collected the first clean sheet of her career.
LBSU travels to Malibu next Thursday for a matchup with Pepperdine.
