Two longtime Hub City rivals square off tonight at Centennial High as Compton opens its 2021 fall season against its crosstown rivals. The hosts from Centennial enter the 6 p.m. contest at 0-1 after a 28-8 loss at Perris last Friday.
Compton will look to lean on its strong, veteran offensive line and crafty Double Wing offense to control the ball and put up some points on the road.
In last week’s meeting with Perris, Centennial allowed just 108 rushing yards to the Panthers on 28 carries. However, Perris was able to throw for 229 yards and four touchdowns against the Centennial secondary.
Simply put, Compton has dominated this rivalry in recent seasons, winning each of the last three meetings by a combined margin of 123-8. Centennial’s last win in this rivalry came in the 2015 season opener.
Kickoff for tonight’s meeting will be at 6 p.m. at Centennial High School.
