Football: Jordan Beats Fairfax, Improves to 2-1

No high school football team in Long Beach has won more games than the Jordan Panthers, who improved to 2-1 with an impressive road win at Fairfax on Thursday evening. Jordan fell behind 6-0 early, then rallied behind another big performance from Damian Henderson, winning 36-20.

Asked how his team was feeling about winning a second game in three weeks this season, Jordan head coach Tim Wedlow put his phone on speakerphone and held it up on the bus, letting his Panthers roar in celebration as an answer.

The game started slow after Henderson ended a 50-yard run with a fumble. Fairfax capitalized by driving and scoring. After that Dylan Hernandez returned a punt 40 yards for a score to put Jordan up 7-6.

“After that it was the Damian Henderson Show,” said Wedlow. Henderson had another box score-bursting performance with three touchdowns, one on an 80-yard kickoff return, one on a 20-yard run, and a third on a punt return.

“He’s unbelievable,” said Wedlow.

Jeremie McGurn had a 48-yard run for a touchdown as well.

Jordan (2-1) will visit St. Paul next week trying to close out their nonleague schedule with a win.
