HIGH SCHOOL

Shayna Martinez, Lakewood Volleyball

Lakewood’s Shayna Martinez led the Lancers to a championship performance in the Dave Mohs Tournament last weekend, and earned tourney MVP honors for her excellent play. She had 37 kills and 21 digs in four matches  to lead the Lancers.

Natalie Paulson, Millikan Volleyball

Millikan soccer stars Natalie and Danielle Paulson have been stars in the gym as well this far, helping lead the Rams’ volleyball team to a great start. Natalie Paulson had six kills, four aces, and 17 digs in a five-set win over Poly last week.

Devin Samples, Long Beach Poly Football

Poly junior Devin Samples was a star in the backfield for the Jackrabbits in their first win of the season, over Leuzinger. Samples had 193 yards rushing with two touchdowns, and another 30 yards receiving to give him 200+ total yards in addition to two scores.

Kweku Claybrook, St. Anthony Football

St. Anthony got their first win of the season last week, edging Wilson behind a significantly-improved offense. Wide receiver Kweku “Q” Claybrook has emerged as a productive receiver, and had three catches for 99 yards and two touchdowns in the win.

Dylan Nugent-Sugamele, Cabrillo Football

Cabrillo senior Dylan Nugent-Sugamele was a big part of why the Jaguars got their first win of the season last Friday night over Lynwood. Nugent-Sugamele played both ways all game and was a terror on defense, with five sacks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.

COLLEGE

Kashauna Williams, Long Beach State Volleyball

Long Beach State junior Kashauna Williams made an All-Tournament team for the third week in a row last weekend after leading Long Beach State with 4.73 kills per set on a .354 hitting clip. LBSU went 1-2 at the Washington State Tournament.
