Football: Lakewood Beats Cabrillo for Justin Utupo’s First Win

The Lakewood Lancers (1-3, 1-0) opened Moore League play with an emphatic 67-0 win over Cabrillo (1-4, 0-1) on Friday night at Veterans Memorial Stadium. The win was also the first for head coach Justin Utupo back at his alma mater.

Lakewood got out to a quick start, leading 29-0 after the opening quarter and the Lancers were up 43-0 at halftime. 

Devin Bush returned a kickoff for a touchdown for the Lancers, while Julius Jimenez also had a special teams score on a fumble returned for a touchdown. Quarterback Braden Downen tossed touchdown passes to AJ Alvarez and Noah Mallon while also running one in himself. Running back Auggie Lyons also added a touchdown on the ground.

The Lancers will continue Moore League play at Jordan next Friday while Cabrillo visits Wilson.
