Compton (2-2, 1-0) is surely excited to get back out on the field after playing just one game the past three weeks. Their one contest was a 36-14 league win at Wilson, and Compton will look to continue to forge its path to the playoffs tonight in J-Town,
While this game was originally slated for Compton College, it will now be hosted in North Long Beach for Jordan’s Homecoming. Also on the line tonight at 7 p.m. is the 91 Gridiron Trophy, making its debut in the football clash between these two schools.
Jordan (2-4, 0-2) is coming off a heartbreaking loss to Lakewood in the final minute last Friday. The Panthers are playing their third consecutive home game in Moore League play and are hoping the third time will be a charm.
Tim Wedlow’s squad is averaging 41.5 points per game in its two wins, but just 8.3 points per game spread across four losses. You can bet star running back Damian Henderson will be a big part of the game plan for Jordan, and the game may well come down to the battle in the trenches where both teams have good size up front.
Running the ball is always Compton’s forte and the rushing attack should be as strong as its been all year. After dealing with a rash of injuries throughout the non-league schedule, Calvin Bryant’s team is approaching full strength for the first time all year, which means major reinforcements to the offensive and defensive lines.
One of the main arrivals is two-way standout lineman Kingston Moa, who was sitting out after transferring from…Jordan. How much of an impact will he make in his return to J-Town as a visitor?
This is a must-win game for Jordan to keep its playoff hopes alive. Meanwhile, Compton will look to get into a rhythm with key starters rejoining the lineup. They’ll need to work quickly with road games at Millikan and Poly the next two weeks.
