The Lakewood football team is back at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Friday to face LA City Section powerhouse, San Pedro.
The Lancers (2-4, 2-1) are looking to bounce back after a tough loss to Millikan last week while San Pedro (4-1) is also coming off a close loss to Banning.
For Lakewood, coach Justin Utupo is looking to get the offense going early in the game and play solid on special teams.
“They are a solid football program,” Utupo said of San Pedro. “They play mistake free.”
The Pirates are led by senior quarterback Aidan Jackson who has thrown for 539 yards and 11 touchdowns. Jackson will look to spread the ball around to Robert Sarmiento, Chris Nixon and Kejuan Bullard who all have at least 100 yards receiving this season.
For the Lancers, they will look to bounce back from their lost to the Rams and get back to playing strong defensively.
“When we look at the league standings and playoff picture,” Utupo said. “We still have an opportunity to share a league title, and make a run in the playoffs, but it starts by winning each rep in practice and taking it one game at a time.”
