Brackets for the 2021 CIF-SS girls’ tennis playoffs were released on Monday morning, and four Moore League teams now know where they’ll begin their postseason journeys. Two-time defending Moore League champions Wilson are the only team that was sent through to Wednesday’s first round of competition, meanwhile Millikan, Poly and Lakewood will all be playing Wild Card matches on Tuesday.
Wilson is up in Division 2 and will host Saugus at 2 p.m. in Wednesday’s opening round. The Bruins were unbeaten in league play for the second year running, and will finally get a crack at a playoff run under head coach Nick Medina.
The closest challenger in the league this season was Millikan, led by Moore League singles champion Maya Alvarez. The Rams are in Division 3 for the playoffs and will be hosting a Wild Card match against Fullerton on Tuesday at 2 p.m. A win would allow the Rams to advance to Wednesday’s first round against Whitney High.
The two remaining playoff teams find themselves playing in the Division 4 Wild Card round. Long Beach Poly will get to host St. Joseph, while Lakewood travels to face Bishop Montgomery. Both of those matches will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday. If the Jackrabbits win, they’ll visit Jurupa Valley in round one, while the Lancers are playing for a trip to face top-seeded Malibu in Wednesday’s opening round.
