St. Anthony girls’ soccer has 13 returning players with experience and the right approach to a much anticipated full season. The Saints want to play the game with energetic enjoyment and appreciation while using their natural instincts to play as a cohesive unit.
“With the amount of stress that high school students are under with academics, friends, their future, and coming off the last two years of craziness, we want to keep this and every season as an opportunity for the players to enjoy their time together, a stress relief for them, and an opportunity to play a game that they love,” St. Anthony coach Brett Minter said.
Team captains Kylee Stockham and Bella Martin are two of a solid group of seniors. Molly Bancroft, Antonia Bareford, Tatiana Fernandez, Sofia Montealagre, and Kyra Rios are also looking to enjoy every second of their last season with the Saints.
Minter is also excited about his strong freshman class including Bella Cruz, Amaya Desantos, Aubrey Meza, Olivia Olmos, Alex Padilla and Presley Wiles.
“These freshmen have bought into the emphasis of having fun, enjoying the opportunity to be with the Lady Saint soccer community, and play the game they love,” Minter said.
St. Anthony won’t be able to host any games this season while Clark Field is under construction, but Minter is trying to look on the bright side.
“All of our games will be on the road, which is a good and bad thing,” he said. “Good because most fields are in much better shape than Clark Field which is why it is being redone. The bad thing is we are traveling a lot. But the good thing with traveling is the opportunity to bond on the bus. Practices have not been interrupted so far.”
The Saints have already won their first two games against Cabrillo and St. Paul. They travel to Kennedy today and start Camino Real League play on Jan. 4 at Bishop Amat.
