More COVID-19 concerns forced Millikan and Wilson to postpone their Moore League girls’ soccer game today.
The Bruins and Rams are currently first and second place in the league standings, respectively, both without a league loss. Millikan (12-2-0, 3-0-0) is also No. 4 in the latest CIF Southern Section Division 1 poll.
“Obviously we’re bummed because the team was ready but these are crazy times so we just have to adapt to it,” Millikan coach Tino Nunez said. “Overall (the team) can take in what’s going on, so we got back to work (Tuesday) and did some fitness training.”
The rescheduled date for this important league game has yet to be decided, but Nunez said they’ll make sure the game is played on a day that doesn’t adversely affect either team’s schedule. Nunez added that his team will continue to do what it can to stay on the field together, such as canceling their weekly pregame pasta dinners together.
“You’re obviously telling (the team) to be safe and smart,” Nunez said. “I know a lot of parents are aware and some are wary of even attending school. We have to stay within the groups that we’re dealing with.”
The teams on campus aren’t doing any regular testing together, so it’s been up to the individuals and their families to stay vigilant.
“Hopefully this doesn’t prevent us from playing the season or causing a lot of rescheduled games,” Nunez said.
Millikan is trying to win a school record fourth consecutive league title.
