Wilson offensive lineman Bobby Mooney knows he made his dad proud on Wednesday.
Michael Paul Mooney was an offensive lineman at Georgia Tech where he helped them win a share of the 1990 National Championship before he was drafted by the Houston Oilers. He passed away in 2007.
His son Bobby Mooney followed in his late fathers footsteps and signed a National Letter Of Intent to attend Georgia Tech where he’ll continue his football career. The 6’7” 320-pound lineman signed his NLI during a small ceremony in the Wilson High gym.
“I plan to continue (my dad’s) legacy,” Mooney said. “Georgia Tech has a great academic program and an amazing football program. The recruiting process was amazing and I can’t wait to get to work out there.”
Mooney went to La Quinta High for three years before transferring to Wilson for his senior season.
“Bobby has a ton of potential and Georgia Tech recognized that in him,” Wilson coach Scott Meyer said. “He is a great athlete in a very big body. He will be a great teammate and I expect that he will develop into a special lineman in the ACC.”
