The Long Beach State men’s volleyball team is off to an excellent 6-1 start, especially impressive given that they’re a young squad with no seniors on the roster, and that they have by far the hardest schedule in the country. While the coaching staff began the year saying they expected to get significantly better over the course of the season, it turns out they’re already pretty good five weeks in: Long Beach State was just voted the No. 1 team in the nation in this week’s AVCA Poll.
The Beach are getting 12 first-place votes. Even more exciting for Long Beach volleyball fans is that the Beach are hosting No. 2 UCLA this Friday at 7 p.m. in the Walter Pyramid. The two teams will meet again at Pauley Pavilion a week from Saturday on Feb. 19.
