Long Beach got a good series of draws in the CIF Southern Section girls’ water polo playoff brackets released on Monday morning.
Division 1
Wilson received the No. 4 seed in the Division 1 playoffs, a fittingly high seed for a Bruins team that’s having a great season. The Bruins will host Redondo Union on Wednesday evening in the Long Beach State campus pool at 7 p.m.
“We feel great,” said Wilson coach Barry O’Dea. “We had a great week of training and are excited about the opportunity that lies ahead.”
If the Bruins can defeat Redondo, they’d have a quarterfinal against the winner of ML King and Murrieta Valley on Saturday, with a potential semifinal against top-seeded Agoura looming next Wednesday.
Division 3
The Millikan Rams have been the top-ranked team in Division 3 for the majority of the season, and enter the playoffs tonight as the top-seeded team. The Rams finished second in the Moore League, but head coach Jose Guzman said his team has had their eyes on a bigger goal all year.
“This is a special team, they know they have a chance to make history,” he said.
The Rams will host La Quinta tonight at 5 p.m. and then face the winner of Capistrano Valley and Peninsula on Thursday, with a quarterfinal contest ahead on Saturday.
Long Beach Poly was ranked No. 10 in Division 3 and will travel to Citrus Valley this evening.
Division 5
Lakewood received an at-large bid into the playoffs and will travel to Charter Oak this evening at 6 p.m.
