Despite being short handed, Long Beach State men’s basketball won its eleventh straight game on Thursday night at Cal State Northridge. The Beach rode a strong performance from freshman Jadon Jones in a 72-59 victory.
Jones, a St. Anthony High alum, scored 17 of his game-high 25 points in the second half while making nine of his 13 field goal attempts, and four of six from 3-point range.
LBSU (15-9, 10-1) is first place in the Big West Conference, and two games ahead of second place. The Beach travels to seventh-place UC Santa Barbara on Saturday.
It took LBSU some time to adjust without the services of Joe Hampton and Jordan Roberts while CSUN (7-17, 3-8) took the lead.
CSUN led by four with just over eight minutes left in the first half when the Beach went on a 17-2 run. LBSU led by as many as 20 in the second half.
LBSU guard Joel Murray finished with 18 points after going 10-for-10 from the free throw line. The 16 assists for the Beach is third-most this season.
The game at UC Santa Barbara on Saturday at 7 p.m. will be covered live on ESPN+.
