The Long Beach State Dirtbags won their third straight game by beating Pepperdine 2-1 on Tuesday at Bohl Diamond at Blair Field.
Dirtbags pitcher Zach Voelker tossed four scoreless innings in his first start, and reliever Marques Johnson followed that up with three scoreless innings.
LBSU (5-6) took the lead in the first inning when Rocco Peppi scored on an error. The Dirtbags scored again in the seventh when Tanner Carlson drove home Sebastian Murillo. Carlson was the only Dirtbag with two hits.
Pepperine (8-4) scored in the top of the eighth, but LBSU pitcher Matt Fields protected the lead and picked up the save with two innings of work.
The Dirtbags are back in action this weekend with a schedule change as they will now host No. 15 ranked Gonzaga in a three-game series at Bohl Diamond at Blair Field.
