The first Lancers victory on the new Lakewood High field at John Ford Stadium came on Tuesday night when the boys’ lacrosse team beat Cabrillo 5-1.
“We knew this was going to be a good game, we beat them in overtime last time we played, so the boys were ready,” said Lakewood coach Matt Hardin. “It was fun to get our first win on the new turf.”
Junior Troy Johansson and freshman Caleb Arnaldo both scored twice for Lakewood while goalkeeper Aidan Wilder made 11 saves. Cabrillo got its goal from Randy Fao.
“I think we’re starting to understand how to keep the ball and stay within ourselves,” Wilder said. “During that first game there were a lot of throw away balls and missed passes we wish we could have back. This game we had a lot of possession and I think that’s what helped us.”
