HIGH SCHOOL
Ky Stopp, Wilson Golf
Wilson’s Ky Stopp shot a one-under 71 on Finals day and his birdie on the 18th hole clinched the Moore League boys’ golf individual title.
Gannon De La Cruz, Millikan Baseball
Millikan cruised through a first-round playoff win with 10 runs, and Gannon De La Cruz was a big part of the reason why. He went 3/3 with 3 RBIs and a run in the victory.
Rose Cano, St. Anthony Softball
St. Anthony pitcher Rose Cano celebrated her 18th birthday by pitching a complete game in the first-round playoff win over Lakewood. Cano had five strikeouts while allowing just five hits and one run.
Nico Colchico, Wilson Track & Field
Wilson’s Nico Colchico has been having a great senior season, setting the school record in the mile. He was the top qualifier in the 1600 at last week’s CIF-SS D1 prelims with a 4:11.50 time.
Kaliyah Johnson, Millikan Track & Field
Millikan’s Kaliyah Johnson is having a breakout season, and she led the Rams by qualifying in the 100 and 200 for CIF-SS prelims, where she will contend for the gold in both races.
COLLEGE
Juaron Watts-Brown, Long Beach State Baseball
The redshirt freshman threw the second no-hitter in program history to complete the Dirtbags’ sweep over UC Riverside. It is also the first complete game no-hitter in Long Beach State history. He struck 16 Highlanders in the game, just one shy of the program record.
Samantha Fowler, Long Beach State Softball
Watts-Brown wasn’t the only Long Beach State pitcher to throw a no-hitter. Samantha Fowler did the same in a win over CSUB which moved the Beach into a tie for first place in the Big West.
