HIGH SCHOOL

Gabriel Tyler, Long Beach Poly Track & Field

Jackrabbits junior Gabe Tyler made history at the CIF State Track & Field meet as the first Poly athlete to compete in the ambulatory events. He took fourth place in the 100 and 400 with PR times; Tyler won the ambulatory 100 event at Arcadia earlier this year.

Aujane Luckey, Wilson Track & Field

Wilson junior Aujane Luckey was the top girls’ athlete from Long Beach at the CIF State meet this year, finishing 2nd in the 400 and 3rd in the 200 as well as running on Wilson’s second-place 4×400 relay.

Jordan Washington, Jordan Track & Field

Panthers sophomore Jordan Washington was exceptional at the CIF State meet as the top boys’ point-scorer from Long Beach. He finished 2nd in the 100 and 4th in the 200 as the top sophomore in the state.

Andy Nguyen, Millikan Tennis

Millikan’s Andy Nguyen won the CIF-SS individual tennis championship after a grueling tournament, going 4-0 at Whittier Narrows and defeating Cassius Chinlund of Campbell Hall in the championship match.

Mike Guardabascio
An LBC native, Mike Guardabascio has been covering Long Beach sports professionally for 13 years, with his work published in dozens of Southern California magazines and newspapers. He's won numerous awards for his writing as well as the CIF Southern Section’s Champion For Character Award, and is the author of three books about Long Beach history.
